Scarlett

Caribbean & USA specialist

Growing up in a family that prioritised exploration and adventure, I was fortunate enough to have spent many of my school holidays visiting a myriad of destinations including the Caribbean and the USA. Whether riding horseback across ranch land in Montana or immersing myself in the vibrant culture of New York City, I have truly savoured the experiences that different states across America have to offer.

Unfortunately, my original plan to do a year abroad at the University of Austin, Texas was cancelled due to the pandemic. However, this experience fuelled my desire to work in the travel industry as it would allow me to continue my admiration for exploring new destinations while sharing my expertise with others. So I decided to leave my previous job in sports marketing and began my career at Audley as a USA and Caribbean specialist.

Q&A with Scarlett

Bathsheba, Barbados

What's the best local dish you've tasted?

I have been lucky enough to visit Barbados more than twenty times, and sampling the local delicacy of flying fish is an absolute must. It's a staple in the Bajan cuisine and is often served crispy and golden-brown. For a truly authentic experience, I highly recommend trying flying fish at Oistins Fish Fry, which encompasses a vibrant atmosphere, live music and friendly locals.

Cape Cod whale sighting

What is your most vivid travel moment

During my most recent trip to New England I was lucky enough to go whale watching off Cape Cod. Within minutes of being on the boat we had already spotted many different species including humpback and minke whales. The guides were extremely knowledgeable, making it an incredible experience that I will definitely recommend.

Machu Picchu, Peru

Where would you love to travel next?

I would love to explore more of Central and South America. Peru, in particular, has been at the top of my bucket list for a while. I would love to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, as well as board the famous sleeper train to Arequipa.
