The best time to visit Grenada is from January to May, which are the driest months. However, the country enjoys a hot, tropical climate all year round, tempered by cooling trade winds, with average highs of 29°C to 30°C throughout.
The average hours of sunshine don’t vary a great deal throughout the year. Grenada is located on the southern edge of the hurricane and tropical storm belt, which means the island is rarely affected by the storms that pass through the region from July to November. Heavy rain does fall from June to December, but the showers are brief. There are fewer crowds at this time and the prices are lower.
Month-by-month guide for travelling in Grenada
Visiting Grenada in January
January has an average high of 28°C. Although there are rainy days, it is still one of the driest months, with brief, tropical showers giving way to sunshine for the rest of the day. It is a very popular month to travel and we recommend booking well in advance.
Events & Festivals
- Grenada Sailing Festival (January): This annual festival brings international yacht racing to the south coast, making for exciting viewing.
Visiting Grenada in February - April
These are the driest months, making them the most popular time to travel, so we recommend booking in advance. From the end of March to the beginning of April, turtles begin to nest on the north coast.
Events & Festivals
- Carriacou Festival (February or March): This festival is a lively mix of music, calypso competitions, street dancing and band parades.
- Independence Day (7th February): Grenada celebrates its independence each year with parades and other festivities.
Visiting Grenada in May
May can be a great time to travel as prices are lower and the warm, relatively dry weather is similar to January.
Visiting Grenada in June - November
Attractive offers make prices a fraction of those offered during the high season. The last of the turtles hatch between the end of June and the beginning of July. Rainfall is at its highest, but usually consists of relatively short showers. Although there are heavy tropical showers, there are still plenty of sunshine hours and the island landscape becomes more lush with rich green vegetation and beautiful tropical flowers. The official hurricane season falls between July and November, and although the risk of hurricanes is very small, you might encounter tropical storms.
Events & Festivals
- Spicemas Festival (end of July to beginning of August): Grenada's Spicemas Festival is celebrated with soca competitions, steel pan orchestras and band parades.
Visiting Grenada in December
December is a little drier. The island has regained its lush and colourful vegetation after the rain. Christmas is a very popular time to visit, with many people booking a year or more in advance.
