Accommodation in Madagascar

Constance Tsarabanjina
Standards of accommodation in Madagascar are not generally as high as they are in the mainland safari destinations. That said, luxurious lodges run by operators with experience of working in remote locations are beginning to change this situation. Although you may not get the same assured service you might elsewhere, you'll find a characterful range of places to stay that add to the charm of a visit to the island.

In the rainforest there are small camps, where the eggs for breakfast are collected from the chickens roaming the grounds. In villages and towns you can stay in old colonial homesteads, whilst on the coast there is everything from tiny guesthouses to boutique hotels. Away from the land, one of the best ways to explore is on a surprisingly affordable yacht charter.
